6 Things You Shouldn’t Forget in Boulder

February 9th, 2024

It’s a town full of adventurers, foodies, and oh-so-trendy college kids. You’ll want to be in the know and prepared for anything. Here’s what you shouldn’t forget when you’re in Boulder: Reusable Bags. These puppies can save your life. Plastic bags are the cancer of environmentally-friendly cities everywhere, so more and more places are passing legislation that imposes 5 or 10-cent fees for having to use plastic or paper bags at the check-out. Plus, if you forget your reusable bags when you’re checking out at Whole Foods or Sprouts or Trader Joe’s, people will... Read More

Why is Boulder a Cannabis-Friendly City?

February 1st, 2024

Boulder has long been known as a progressive and liberal town, and its friendly attitude towards cannabis is no exception. The city is home to a thriving cannabis culture, with a number of dispensaries, smoke shops, and cannabis-friendly events that attract visitors from all over the world. Whether you’re a seasoned cannabis connoisseur or just curious about the plant, Boulder is a great place to visit. One reason for Boulder’s cannabis-friendly culture is its location in Colorado, one of the first states in the US to legalize recreational cannabis. This move allowed for the creation... Read More

The Stoned Munchies: Fabulous Food With Solid Science!

January 26th, 2024
a golden statue of a roman soldier

Have you ever wondered whether cannabis actually makes Boulderites hungry? Is there any “real” science to support the “stoned munchies?” As we have always known, the answer is a resounding “YES!” Diet control as to timing, choices, and quantities are key to good health and to feeling good. And the latest science confirms that in fact smoking cannabis does trigger the stoned munchies. I believe  that oil made from whole flower is a dramatic appetite stimulant, while smoking or vaping, which I avoid in any event, has less of an appetite stimulus impact. That is... Read More

Delta-8 THC AND ME. For Me Or Not For Me…That Is The Question!

January 21st, 2024

Is Delta-8 THC ok for Boulderites to consume? Here are 5 reasons for saying “sure, fire up,” and 5 reasons to say “not today thank you.” The chemistry of Delta-8 THC compared to the well-known Delta-9 THC is a fantastic topic! For another day. For today, know that both are cannabinoids, since they occur naturally in the cannabis plant, and while Delta-9 THC is present in significant and commercially useful amounts, Delta-8 is not. It is a trace cannabinoid in the plant. BUT it can be readily made from hemp-derived CBD. Remember that “THC” is “tetrahydrocannabinol,”... Read More

Confessions Of A Boulder Budtender

January 15th, 2024

The question I hear most at my job is something along the lines of, “I mean, do you really like your job?” And, it usually comes from a woman between 60 and 80 years old who is wearing bedazzled jeans and refuses to even smell the flower we have on display. After I was asked this several times, I took a moment to really think about my truthful answer. I work over 40 hours a week, with little to no breaks throughout my day. I deal with complaints about ridiculous things and at least once a weeks someone calls me a b*%$# for not accepting their drivers license with void punched into it.... Read More

Success is EASY! Just Work Hard! It’s been 10 years since Boulder and Colorado launched the first legal recreational marijuana market in the world and became a pioneer in drug reform. Ten years ago, 2015,     Colorado experienced its first legal marijuana sales. As always, Colorado was a nationwide leader. Now, after well over a decade of work by activists, civilians, legislators, medical people, laboratory experts, marketing experts,  and the rest of us, we have marijuana sales recreationaly and medically. We have a lab-tested safe source of marijuana, absent mold, pesticides, and other... Read More

From Boulder and I Do Not Smoke Weed

December 30th, 2023

I’m a long time lover of the Devil’s Lettuce, and all of its 105+ cannabinoids. I am however not a fan of the 100+ chemicals which combustion adds to to cannabis. Meaning I do not like smoking. Cannabis yes. Combustion no. I am not a fan of edibles, since they typically have one or both of two cannabinoids; THC and CBD. What about the other 103+ cannabinoids? To fit the market I suspect, most flower seems to have high THC and zero CBD. Selfishly personally I prefer flower with all of the cannabinoids present. For the enhancement of the “unpleasant side effects” I... Read More

Drink to Your Health: Cannabis Tea for the Common Cold

October 31st, 2023

I spent the majority of last week sick with a sore throat (a name that doesn’t quite do it justice as I felt it would be better described as nightmare throat or raging-baby-dragon-trapped-in-my throat), and I found myself wondering about cannabis teas, or in short, CBD tea. First, a couple of facts: Tea alone is packed with benefits for the body. There’s the antioxidants that protect the it from free radicals that can wreak havoc on our health, and let’s not forget about its association with weight loss and a lower risk of heart disease and diabetes. When ingested, such as in tea, cannabis... Read More

Two Sides of the Same Cannabis: Comparing THC and CBD

September 13th, 2023

Though cannabis plays host to at least 85 different cannabinoids, there are two who tend to grab the most time in the spotlight: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). You’ve probably heard talk—or formed opinions yourself through careful research of your own—about preferences of marijuana users for certain strains that give them that amazing head high or, conversely, those who prefer a nice, mellow body buzz. These differences can be attributed to the makeup of a particular strain and its ratios of THC to CBD. Beyond the effect these two cannabinoids have on recreational experiences,... Read More
