Trail Ridge Road spans the park and connects Estes Park to the western slope town of Grand Lake. With an elevation of 12,183 feet, it is the highest continuously paved road in the United States. This photo was taken this afternoon in Boulder from Douglass Elementary School. Longs Peak may be seen from most of the northern Front Range Urban Corridor, as well as from Longmont, Colorado. It is one of Colorado’s most conspicuous mountains, towering 9,000 feet (2,700 meters) over the Great Plains’ western boundary. Before winter crept into the foothills, Matthew spent the afternoon hiking in the flatirons. Only days before snow blanketed the forest, he made sure to squeeze in one final late fall hike. A couple from Illinois visited Rocky Mountain National Park this week to get married and were startled when a moose came into view in their snowy May background. The couple made several attempts to take pictures and say their vows, but the stubborn guest continued to meander closer and closer. The couple said that they had never seen a moose before, and their photographer noted that the couple was terrified; she kept trying to get them to pay attention to their pictures, but they were in awe of the wildlife.
