Kyrie Irving – Here We Go Again

February 7th, 2023

Let’s see if I have this right. Kyrie Irving demands a trade from Cleveland, bails on the Celtics, and eventually ends up a Brooklyn Net. In Brooklyn, Kyrie chases James Harden out of town, refuses to get vaccinated, shares antisemitic posts on his social media, refuses to apologize, eventually apologizes, and begrudgingly opts-in to stay with the Nets for $36.5 million. Things finally calm down in Brooklyn as Jacque Vaughn takes over for the fired Steve Nash, Kyrie rarely misses a start, averages 27 points-per-game, and the Nets start playing some of the best basketball in the NBA as they look... Read More

And Then There Were Four

May 17th, 2022

And then there were four. Luka Doncic could have defeated the Phoenix Suns by himself, and after a first half in which Doncic scored 27 points, equaling the Suns halftime total, he almost did. Spencer Dinwiddie added 30 points on 11 of 15 shooting. Jalen Brunson chipped in 24 points, and the Dallas Mavericks made 19 of their 39 threes (48.7%) on their way to a lopsided 123-90 game seven victory. The Boston Celtics got 27 points from Grant Williams, 23 from Jason Tatum, and 19 from Jaylen Brown as the team made 22 of their 55 threes (40%) in a game seven route of the Milwaukee Bucks, 109-81. That reminds me of a story I wrote a few years ago ranking which NBA lineup had the best trio of players.  The article was titled, “Everybody Loves a Threesome”. Call it a reflection of the work created over the past year, a chance to smile thinking about the absurdity that was 2020, or simply just a way to recycle... Read More

The Amazing Adventures of Spencer Dinwiddie

November 28th, 2017

The Amazing Adventures of Spencer Dinwiddie. The title reads like a Jules Verne novel and conjures up images of dark London streets, characters with handle-bar moustaches, Bowler hats, and hot air balloons scurrying throughout European clouds.  But while the name seems classic, the story was almost over before it began. A top-100 recruit from Taft High School in Los Angeles, Spencer Dinwiddie came to the University of Colorado in 2011 with all the makings of a great player.  At 6’6 with outstanding range and a great handle, Dinwiddie was an immediate starter and quickly became the go-to-guy... Read More
