‘Tis the season to smell the Boulder flowers! While flower pics may cheer us during short winter days, it is hard to compete with the beauty and fragrance of lilacs in the Spring. Lilacs are in full bloom, and the perfume permeates the Boulder air. Flowering trees astonish us with the sheer mass of their presence and overwhelming beauty. I find myself pulling over and grabbing my camera (phone) and my nose from the shotgun seat. I walk around the trees and bushes without trespassing. The photo ops show why I have 15,000 pictures on my phone alone. Personally I do not reuse “chips” which I still refer to as “rolls of film.”pic Lenny Lensworth Frieling

I treat them like negatives and use them as another backup. If I get5000 and more (many more depending) pictures on a roll that cost $45 for a high speed read/write chip, that comes to about $0.10 cents a shot. Realistically many don’t shoot at the highest resolution. The phone pics do not have rolls of “film” to backup the pics. In a dedicated camera, the real number of picture might be 12,000+ depending. At $0.05 a shot, it is worth it to me to save the chips rather than re-use them.

Never put a chip from one camera into another camera. Trust me on this. Let’s look at some spring flowers! To me, little can be more fitting for Motivational Monday! Go forth and smell the flowers! If you don’t have time for that, perhaps an examination of priorities is suggested. With 12,000 pics on a roll, not at the max resolution in a camera, we’re down to, if my phone is right and I divided the right two numbers, a $45.00 roll might bring the cost down to a negative number! They owe us money if we take enough pictures! Our cost per pic is down to $0.004 per pic! It’s the sorting later that takes time!
