Macro Marvels: Unleashing Boulder Phone Cameras for Professional Quality Photography!

April 26th, 2024

We Boulderites wonder: Is a camera phone a “real” camera? First, what’s wrong with the iPhone and the other top level camera/phones? I find two non-fatal flaws which I’d like to get out of the way immediately. No suspense for the bad news is necessary. I’ll let the cat out of the bag and we’ll all take pictures of it, since we all have top quality cameras in our hand or in our pocket. No longer relegated to professional photographers and destined to living in a camera bag, the phones are amazing cameras! Not just adequate. Not just handy. Not just cool for selfies.... Read More

Mastering Composition in Boulder Pics: Some Secrets to Successful Snaps

March 29th, 2024

How do I take a good picture in Boulder? Happily the guidance provided by the basic rules of composition work in the Valley and work everywhere else as well. They work if the camera is a phone or a “serious” professional camera. Do not underestimate the phone camera! Mine is often smarter than the fancier more impressive looking cameras. My favorite camera is the one I have at hand when I want it. Does a picture have to have a classic composition to work? I believe not!  I enjoy pics of groups of things. The repeated shapes and colors make the mangoes magically merge into a coherent... Read More

Tuesday Sunrise Splendor! Surprise Super Spectacle of Color!

February 27th, 2024

I dozed. THEN my Boulder photo instincts or something woke me up in time to look outside. I was greeted by a sunrise light that looked more like a painting by a great artist than like a “normal” sunrise. I suppose that I was looking at a great painting by a great artist; the Universe! The sun rising, the clouds, refraction, moisture in the air, and the rest of what makes colors in the sky played some role I suspect <G> I grabbed the nearest camera, my phone, and the chill in the air vanished as a clicked away. The hardest part was picking a picture or so to share. I am... Read More

Return to Boulder. Super Day, Superbowl, Sun Set in Florida

February 11th, 2024

Sunset Over Florida As I Fly Home. Back to Boulder! As the sun sets over the Florida East Coast the sun also sets of my Florida vacation. At least it is not a shock of cold and snow.  Wait, wait, that’s wrong. I have to admit that the weather in Florida when I left was amazing.  The trip was amazing, and gives me this opportunity to share some of my pics. Hat’s off to Delta Airlines. They got me to Florida, and more importantly they flew me home. While I could wax eloquently, I’ll leave waxing to the moon!  Their effort was effective and excellent. This is Lensworth At Large,... Read More

Monday Sunset At Sunrise Boulder-Style, Warm Weather Travel

January 29th, 2024

Sunset Point at Sunset                                         photo Lenny Lensworth Frieling Boulderites travel.  Summer and winter, North and South and all points in between. My rationalization for posting a sunset picture at sunrise is simple. Sunset in one place means it IS sunrise in another. I suppose that if you are a “flat earther” this presents some problems in perspective, but these are not my problems!  So I am taking the liberty of blogging with a sunset, at sunrise. Additionally, eating too many edibles can result in waking... Read More

To BEE or Not To BEE. That Is The Question

January 26th, 2024

As This Boulder  Honeybee Travels From Flower to Flower, It Collects pollen. The Pollen is the Large “Orange” Pouch Under The Hindquarters. Photo Lenny Lensworth Frieling Photo Lenny Lensworth Frieling Whether it is hive collapse or some other challenge to our bee population, our very existence relies upon the health of our pollinators  worldwide. Let’s look at two things about bees that are scary. One should not be scary absent a bee allergy, and the other is truly horrorshow scary. What is overrated as being scary is the fear of being bitten by a honeybee. While wasps and... Read More

Boulder Contrails, Clouds and Colors of Sunset

January 17th, 2024

The  Boulder Colorado sky of the setting sun, lighting up our clouds with beauty and contrails.  Photo Debi Dodge Contrails, short for condensation trails, are the visible trails of water vapor or ice crystals that form behind aircraft flying at high altitudes. Their appearance is a common sight in the sky, often seen as long, thin white lines that can vary significantly in appearance. Understanding the factors that influence their formation and the reasons behind their diverse appearances involves a blend of meteorology, aerodynamics, and physics. Unusual Contrails at Sunset Over The Front... Read More
