Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

January 20th, 2023

An Ebio major by day, slam dunk champion by night. Meet Mak, my neighbor and current SlamJampalooza winner. Mak moved to Colorado from Alaska to attend CU Boulder and hone his mini-hoop skills. Every opportunity he gets, Mak travels around the world to scuba dive and fish. If you were to ask Mak how he would describe himself, he would say he’s a mix between Shaq and Aquaman. An opportunist by nature, there is no doubt Mak helps make Boulder the intriguing place we can all call home. Thanks Makane!  Read More

Fishing in Fall: Boulder Creek

October 10th, 2022

Each day, the stars come out a little bit earlier, there is a slight chill in the mornings, and the leaves appear a little yellower than they did last week. This means that tubing Boulder Creek is coming to an end and that unfinished alpine climbs may need to wait until next summer. However, as fall approaches, new opportunities arise and that slight chill starts to feel pretty good as you run, bike, or fish the Front Range. Over the next couple of weeks, the water levels along the Front Range will start to fall, yet there is plenty of time left for an amazing fishing season in Boulder. Rivers... Read More

Is Fishing a Sport?

August 28th, 2022

On my way to the gym last Saturday morning, I took the opportunity to listen to a little sports radio, hoping to find out the latest news on the Rockies, Broncos, or other local sports. Instead, the topic of conversation was about trout fishing. As I double-checked the station to confirm that I was listening to sports talk radio and not NPR, the host rambled on about fishing on the Roaring Fork River. There are three questions that have baffled mankind since the existence of time. Is there life after death? What came first, the chicken or the egg? And is fishing really a sport? Step one in my journey... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

October 24th, 2016

Meet Dan and Elliot. These guys are fly fishers. They’ve been doing this for years now, and on a warm Sunday at 4pm they decided to come to Boulder Creek to fish for trout. You are not allowed to keep the trout that you catch in the creek, so they just get a hook and toss it back in. But don’t be fooled, just because these guys are fishing in Boulder Creek doesn’t make them new to the sport. Dan recently trekked all the way to Montana to fly fish with his dad, battling massive fish in raging rapids with just his rod and his hands. They like the atmosphere of the creek in Boulder,... Read More

Walden Ponds

December 18th, 2014

Walden Ponds Park, owned and managed by Boulder County, is a small gem nestled into Gunbarrel, on the outskirts of Boulder. The park hosts anglers, bird-watchers, walkers, runners, and many a nature program. While the park sustained some flood damage, the majority of the trails are open as well as the fishing areas. The park is popular throughout the year for bird watching, with many migratory birds stopping over, such as white pelicans. The park is much quieter than some other parks on the plains around Boulder, which is especially true in winter, making it a great place to take a break from daily... Read More
