Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

October 24th, 2016

Meet Dan and Elliot. These guys are fly fishers. They’ve been doing this for years now, and on a warm Sunday at 4pm they decided to come to Boulder Creek to fish for trout. You are not allowed to keep the trout that you catch in the creek, so they just get a hook and toss it back in. But don’t be fooled, just because these guys are fishing in Boulder Creek doesn’t make them new to the sport. Dan recently trekked all the way to Montana to fly fish with his dad, battling massive fish in raging rapids with just his rod and his hands. They like the atmosphere of the creek in Boulder,... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

January 24th, 2016

Say hello to Cherie! Taking her dog Emery on walks in our amazing state is just one of the things this Florida native loves to do since moving to Colorado 2 years ago. “The magnificent, incredible views and weather are unbeatable!” she said when I asked what drew her here. Cherie manages two full service salons in Longmont and Ft. Collins which keep her extremely busy but when she does have a bit of downtime she heads west. Hiking, driving through the mountains and camping are all things she loves to do with her family. When she can’t get outdoors, relaxing or working on ceramics are two... Read More

Meet Jerry! Jerry is a 10 1/2 month old Newfoundland puppy originally from Canada!  He’s easily about 100 pounds, but still has 50 more to go before he is considered a “full size” Newfoundland. This handsome guy now lives in Longmont with his loving owner, and is putting his looks to the test being a show dog.  He is about to compete in his fourth show, and was spending some of his day playing with other pups at Valmont Dog Park! Big Beards, and Even Bigger Beers : Groẞen Bart Brewery

Grossen Bart Brewery Boulder

I remember the day in high school, all those years ago, when my German teacher, Frau Sussak, expressed to me the virtues of learning German. Like any student who somehow gets caught up in Deutsch, rather than a perhaps more functional language like Spanish, I started to question whether learning German was actually worth my time, being in, you know, America. Around my junior year, I decided to express these concerns to my teacher, a kindly woman who had been in the industry of teaching kids western Europe’s most distinctive (and perhaps, most made fun of) language for some thirty years.... Read More

Free Fun with Your Local Parks Department

March 19th, 2015

Entertainment is rarely completely free these days, as the performers on Pearl Street frequently remind passerby during their shows. Hanging out in your locals parks is of course free, but unless you’ve taken the initiative to bring a bunch of books to study and are yourself already a skilled observer, you might not learn anything new. Fortunately many park departments in the area are happy to provide you with experts and educators to lead you through the outdoors. There are free nature programs for everyone, and most parks departments host programs throughout the year to suit different interests... Read More
