Grab a Coffin and a Turkey, Frozen Dead Guy Days is Here: March 18th – 20th

March 18th, 2022

What on earth are we talking about today? Only the coolest festival in Colorado. Every year thousands gather in Nederland to celebrate our state’s most famous frozen grandpa with games, beer, music, and coffin races! Did we mention most events are free? A little backstory first: Back in 1993 it was discovered that Trygve Bauge and his mother Aud were storing Trygve’s grandfather with dry ice in the shed behind their unfinished house in Nederland. They wanted the body cryonically frozen in the hopes that someday grandpa would be resurrected by future technologies (nanobots, etc.). The... Read More

Mountain Biking at CU? I Thought it was Only for Roadies!

January 24th, 2022

For those of you who are already part of the Boulder mountain bike community, it may seem crazy that many people don’t know about the many opportunities for mountain biking around Boulder.  When I first came to CU, I had no idea there was a collegiate mountain bike team.  Of course I knew there was a team for road riding, but since all I ever read or saw in pictures was about the road team, I didn’t even think to look at CU Cycling’s website to see what other disciplines they participate in.  It wasn’t until the beginning of my second year that I happened to see... Read More

5 Amazing Restaurants to Try in Boulder

November 11th, 2020

I love going to eat in Boulder (I love going out to eat in general—who doesn’t?) I love a restaurant with a great atmosphere (a great vibe in a restaurant is my SCENE) and affordable food and drink that is quality! Winding down the day at a nice place with a few friends and drinks is one of my favorite pastimes. Sometimes picking out a new restaurant can always feel like a gamble; you never really know what you’ll get, especially because there are plenty of options in Boulder. Well, I got you, because these are some restaurants you certainly must try in Boulder; you really can’t go wrong... Read More

Avid4 Adventure: Building a Lifelong Love of Outdoor Adventure in Boulder’s Kids

May 29th, 2020

Even in an active community like Boulder, children aren’t immune to the sedentary lifestyle that accompanies the tech revolution. Luckily, Boulder is rife with summer and school programs to compete with Angry Birds and PAW Patrol. Perhaps the most active and socially conscious program is Advid4 Adventure. This premier summer camp is on a mission to give kids the confidence and skills to participate in (and love) outdoor activities. Avid4 Adventure’s founder, David Secunda, notes the positive environmental and health impacts of connecting children with nature on the company website. “Avid4... Read More

Best Cheap Drinks in Boulder

March 17th, 2020

One of the things I love about Boulder is the number of places to get cheap drinks due to the large college population! Truly, this town is the town where you can you get a lot of strong drinks (sometimes served in pitcher form) for a decent price. After living in NYC for a year—and being scared by having to pay $18 for a single red bull vodka at a bar once—I am very here for Boulder’s cheap prices. Look no further for a guide to the best deal drinks in Boulder, and I’ll see you there. 1. Illegal Pete’s Illegal Pete’s is low-key the king of good, cheap drinks in Boulder! They have two... Read More

Top 3 Coffee Shops in Boulder

February 5th, 2020

One of my favorite things to do is go to cute local coffee shops on occasion! I love the variety of coffee shops, each one having a different little pizazz and style; makes paying $5 for a coffee (kinda) worth it if it’s a cute shop with a good atmosphere. In Boulder, there is no shortage of great coffee shops, and here are a few of the best. 1. The Laughing Goat Ah, The Laughing Goat is a favorite of the Boulder coffee scene and it makes sense why. A nice location a few blocks off of the busy Pearl Street Pedestrian Mall, the Laughing Goat is a nice little oasis. They have a tiny cute patio... Read More

3 Christmas Light Displays to Get You in The Mood

December 6th, 2019

One of my favorite things to do around Christmas is to see all the different light displays! I’m too lazy to ever put lights up myself, but boy is it magical to see a bunch of Christmas lights brighten up a street or scene that looks quite normal in the daylight. These are some cool Christmas light attractions that are sure to dazzle you!   Mile High Tree This is a new attraction to Denver this year: a massive electronic tree on the side of Speer Boulevard! It’s a nice take on a big tree attraction for Denver, resembling something like a sister to the Rockefeller Christmas Tree in... Read More

Thriving and Surviving your first CU party

August 25th, 2019

As an incoming freshman, you’re going to hear a bunch of different things about the college party scene, some may be true and some may not. As a freshman, you should definitely go to at least one party to decide if you like going out or not. Partying is not for everyone, but you owe it to your social self to try it at least once. When I was a freshman, my roommate and I were wondering how you even hear about parties. She came back one day and said that someone told her to just wonder on the hill and walk into any party you hear/see. To me, that was super intimidating because I didn’t know... Read More

Top 3 Fun Hangs in Boulder

July 30th, 2019

1. Half Fast Subs  I LOVE Half Fast Subs! It’s got great prices on drinks and subs, and the dive atmosphere is my favorite. Located on Boulder’s ever-changing ‘The Hill’ district, the atmosphere has some old0-school charm. It’s a no-frills, low key establishment that feels very comfortable to hang out at. Kick back on the patio, drink a pitcher of Long Island Iced Tea—dubbed the ‘Strongo’—and laugh with friends. You can’t beat it.  2. The Spot  The Spot is a cool hidden gem that has a fine duality; you can climb and drink a beer. The Spot was the first bouldering gym to... Read More
