The NFL Draft – 4/20 May Have Passed, But There’s Still Plenty of Smoke

April 23rd, 2024

On paper, this year’s NFL Draft seems immensely predictable. The three teams at the top of the draft board are all in desperate need of a quarterback, and there are three projected prospects just waiting to hear their name called. After the quarterbacks have fallen, the board is left with three dynamic wide receivers, all thought to be true difference makers. While the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, and New York Giants all have a specific need for their rosters – a dynamic, difference making, wide receiver. The assumption is that the rest of the top half of the draft is filled with... Read More

The Broncos Without a Starting Quarterback? – Inconceivable!

March 12th, 2024

Like many Bronco fans, I was struggling to figure out Sean Payton’s quarterback plans after letting go of Russell Wilson, despite still owing him $40 million. The Denver Broncos lacked the cap space for any high-priced free agent, were absent of the draft capital needed to move up for a top-three pick, and obviously, Jarrett Stidham could never be the answer. But it all became clear the other morning as I sat in bed watching the 1987 classic, The Princess Bride. Remember the scene in The Princess Bride, when the man in black (Westley) challenges Vizzini in a Battle of Wits to try and save Princess... Read More

Just One Question – Who’s Playing Quarterback Next Season?

January 2nd, 2024

With just two games remaining in the Denver Broncos season, Sean Payton made the decision to bench quarterback Russell Wilson. Essentially a move that put an end to Wilson’s future in Denver. Moving on from a quarterback that was only 11-18 in his two seasons as a Bronco. That’s football. Replacing a quarterback that doesn’t fit the coach’s scheme, acquired by the previous regime. That’s commonplace. Benching a quarterback as a scapegoat, implying that it wasn’t the coaching, but rather, the execution of the plays. That happens. Preferring a cheap quarterback on a rookie contract,... Read More

The NFL Draft – You Dare Mock Me?

April 25th, 2023

The 2023 NFL Draft is just days away, and it promises to be mock-nificant! Bryce Young is three inches shorter than Baker Mayfield, Anthony Richardson is either the next Lamar Jackson or the next Malik Willis, and while the unwritten rule is to never draft a running back in the first round – somebody is going to draft Bijan Robinson in the first round. A look at how the first dozen picks will go. 1) Carolina Panthers – Bryce Young (QB/ALABAMA) A lot has been said about drafting a quarterback as small as Bryce Young (5’10 and 195 lbs.), but it is hard to believe that a franchise would be... Read More

Hamlin – Harbaugh – And Those Sad Little Horned Frogs

January 10th, 2023

The memory is still fresh in our minds. A player lays motionless on the field as fans watch in disbelief. A sight so horrific that many cannot bear to watch, and yet, cannot look away. A stadium of enthusiastic fans, painted faces, and cheering voices – suddenly turned silent. No, I am not talking about Damar Hamlin. He’s doing great! I am talking about Georgia’s 65-7 drubbing over TCU in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday night. Actually, it wasn’t just one player laying motionless on the field, it was an entire TCU secondary that seemed motionless. The defensive... Read More

The Best Draft We Never Had

May 3rd, 2022

Maybe the trick to enjoying the NFL draft is not to participate in it. In 2021 the Denver Broncos passed on linebacker Micah Parsons. The 2020 draft gave us Jerry Jeudy instead of Justin Jefferson. Noah Fant was hardly the steal of 2019, Josh Allen was available in 2018, Garett Bolles has been holding since 2017, and the 2016 NFL Draft…..that was Paxton Lynch. The Denver Broncos ended up trading a boat load of picks for quarterback Russell Wilson, finally joining the festivities with the 64th pick, and last one of round two. But let’s be honest. By the 64th pick, the Broncos could have... Read More

The 2022 NFL Mock Draft – Vegas Edition

April 19th, 2022

The Denver Broncos may not be picking anyone in the 2022 NFL Draft until number 64 of the second round, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be exciting. The event takes place in Las Vegas – the perfect setting for future dreams and crushing disappointment. I’m expecting food-stained jerseys, alcohol induced jeers, and beer flying everywhere. And that’s just my living room. A prediction of the first dozen picks of the 2022 NFL Draft – just like it will look like in Vegas. (Minus the lap dance, glitter, and regret.) 1) Jacksonville Jaguars – Aiden Hutchinson / Edge / Michigan – With... Read More

Denver’s Draft Day – Did He Say Cornerback??

May 5th, 2021

The art of the NFL draft is subjective at best.  War rooms filled with billionaires, general managers, and coaches all searching for ways to improve the franchise.  Draft boards in dry erase markers list best players available, positions of need, and potential new faces of a franchise. For GM’s and head coaches on the hot seat, it is a final chance to save their jobs by selecting a savior quarterback, a much-needed tackle, or a tight end weapon with 4.3 speed. For Denver’s new general manager, George Paton, it is an opportunity to succeed where John Elway has failed for the last four seasons. ... Read More

The Denver Broncos on Draft Day – Selection Special

April 28th, 2021

The NFL Draft is just days away and for Bronco Nation the team’s first selection will write the script.  With the ninth overall pick many experts envision a scenario in which Denver moves up a few spots to grab their franchise quarterback.  Others have the Broncos staying where they are and either hoping a quarterback falls in their lap, or a linebacker is available to fill out their defense.  There is even the possibility that Denver has no choice but to go offensive tackle. A look at Denver’s draft order, their potential options, and the best way to fill the roster. ROUND ONE (#9) Justin... Read More

NFL Mock Draft – Who Does Denver Select?

April 14th, 2021

The NFL Draft is less than two weeks away and Denver has the ninth overall pick.  The off-season has been filled with the re-signing of big-name players and shoring up weaknesses with free agent acquisitions.  The Broncos could use their pick on a top linebacker, a shutdown cornerback, or depth at the offensive lineman position. And there is always that question at quarterback. A look at the 2021 NFL Draft, the predictions, and who Denver eventually decides on.   Jacksonville Jaguars – The first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft is a no-brainer. Gardner Minshew is a nice backup in the NFL, but... Read More
