The Mystery and Majesty of Boulder’s Saddle Rock Trail

January 27th, 2022

Gregory Canyon’s trailhead has seen better days. Currently, it’s actually in the process of seeing better days, because construction vehicles are finally beginning to rebuild the road that was destroyed in last year’s floods. I hadn’t been in the Gregory Canyon area since before Boulder’s big flooding incident, so this road was quite a shock to me, but it was merely foreshadowing what was yet to come on the trail. The Saddle Rock trail looks quite a bit different since the floods. The flooding paved a huge riverbed through the forest area, leaving behind all of... Read More

Outdoor Adventure of the Week: Caribou Ranch

September 16th, 2021

There are few things as inspiring as a bluebird winter day here in Colorado, perfect for getting out and exploring, and that is exactly what I found when I arrived at Caribou Ranch Open Space earlier this week. Rich with history, this area is home to the former route of the Denver, Boulder and Western Railroad that ran from 1904 to 1919 and a place that miners once flocked to for work. You might even spot the DeLonde Barn on your way around the Bluebird Loop trail, which was once home to a recording studio that attracted many of the musical greats including Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Chicago. Caribou... Read More

How I Became a Full-Time Airstreamer: Part I

August 2nd, 2018

Most people wonder how I got here. And, I don’t mean like, hey, I drove while hauling this big silver thing on the back of my Yukon. They wonder how I mentally got to a space that believed that living in 100 square feet without any real definitive geographic location to call home would be a good idea. If we’re being honest (and, yes, let’s always be honest), I’m not really sure where to begin. I imagine that all of life’s little moments have led me here. In fact, I don’t imagine anything. I know that all of life’s little moments have led me here. I really do feel as if this nomadic... Read More

Cannabis and hiking are a great pair. You get to enjoy being in nature while also consuming a bit of it. The age-old stereotype that cannabis users are lazy is still being debunked. Hikers who consume cannabis are a great example of active stoners. We aren’t inside on the couch. We’re outside on the trail, and we’re not alone. Rose is a Boulder-based outdoor climbing enthusiast. Here, she enjoys climbing on the legendary arch outside during the super moonset in Morrison early Monday morning. A frigid river crossing and precarious scrambling leads us to watch the super moon set from a spectacular location on earth. Rose recently completed climbing all 3 flatirons this summer!  Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

September 22nd, 2016

“We must conquer the rock to show our mightiness.” comments Jonah on his experience rock climbing. This was Jonah’s first time climbing outdoors, catching a glimpse of what the rock’s in Boulder taste like. He has never done much climbing before, but due to the friendliness of the rock climbing community and the nature of climbing itself, he’s hooked. Even coming from a strong basketball background, he was still fascinated by Colorado’s  rock formations when he moved to Colorado.  Read More
