Tea Time!

June 8th, 2017

I recently visited the Dashunbe Tea House in Boulder, an ornate and pristine Tea House located at the base of the Rocky Mountains and next to Boulder creek. The tea house is filled with authentic Asian sculptures, design, and art work and sells a wide variety of teas for any taste. The place has a substantial history behind it, having first been built in Dashubne, Tajikistan, Boulder’s sister city. It was constructed in Dashunbe in the 1990’s, then dissembled, crated up, and shipped to Boulder, where they rebuilt the building. This was performed as a symbol of friendship and cultural exploration,... Read More

Draw On These Events This Week

April 9th, 2017

Well, it’s time to get back to the usual format.  I’ve dug through my sources to find some great new events for you all this week, but before I get to those I have to take this one last chance to reiterate what I recommended last week.  Since then I’ve seen the film myself and am close to considering it my favorite movie of all time.  Alright, I’ve pushed that movie hard enough, let’s get to the new events shall we? On Tuesday April 11th, and every Tuesday for that matter, Upslope brewing company is hosting their Tuesday Tapping.  Every week their brewers create new and unique beers... Read More

3 Events to squeeze in before April

March 26th, 2017

The end of March is already here, and somehow it felt like it went by even quicker than February.  Before we say goodbye to March and head towards the springtime in April, let’s take a look at some last minute events to squeeze in before the month is out.   The Five “Mother Sauces” Cooking Class on March 28th will teach what the bases is for all great sauces.  Hosted at the Food Lab from 6-9pm for $79 per person, this class is the perfect first step for learning how to make any classic sauce on your own.  The five mother sauces being taught are Bechamel, Espagnole, Hollandaise,... Read More

Post daylight savings Events

March 12th, 2017

Most of us are probably still recovering from daylight savings, but that’s no excuse to skip out on the events coming up this week.  If anything, why not let these events get you back into your regular routine? On March 14th at 7:30pm, the Boulder Bookstore is hosting author Daniel Pinchbeck to speak about his book.  Titled “How Soon is Now?” his book looks at what he calls an ecological mega-crises on Earth.  Actions taken now may determine what kind of world and lives future generations have.  Pinchbeck, a futurist and philosopher, wrote his book as a social guide to avoid this crises.... Read More

Pitch, Yaw, and Roll– The Crazy Jargon of Virtual Reality

March 9th, 2017

Last week’s blog on the history of movies filmed in Colorado got me thinking about the evolution of television: how we went from theater and plays, to black and white silent shows, to full blown color and sound effects. Now, we have entered a new era of virtual reality and augmented reality, whereupon putting on some over-sized goggles allows us to be fully immersed in a movie or game, becoming actively part of the films we used to passively watch. How VR works Virtual Reality’s goal is total immersion—to trick your brain into believing that what you are seeing is real. Different... Read More

Events to treat all senses

March 5th, 2017

Here I am again with so much to say about these under advertised events that I just want to get straight into them.  I will say this, though: This month’s events are a treat for all senses.  Come see what I mean.   Throughout the entire month of March the Boulder Dinner Theater is putting on their performance of Disenchanted.  This comedic parody of classic fairytales turns all the classic tropes about princess we know on their heads.  This musical features all the Disney princesses becoming fed up with how they’re being presented in today’s media and join together to reclaim their... Read More

Three Exciting Events This Week

February 12th, 2017

February always moves quick, so it’s important to make sure and keep up with the events going on before the month is over.  If you haven’t already gone out and checked out something new and exciting this month, let these three suggestions be your guide. The renowned Sculptor Kevin Box will be presenting his work at SmithKlein Gallery on February 14th from 2-6pm.  Kevin Box begins his work with a single sheet of paper, a clean slate in his eyes, and works to bring out the potential of that clean slate in each precise fold he makes.  Despite their paper like appearance, the final products... Read More

Three events you weren’t aware of this week

February 5th, 2017

Another week, another look into events in Boulder you probably weren’t aware of.  Let’s not waste any time and dig right in and see what you might be up to in the coming days. 1.These two authors will be speaking about, and doing signings, for their new books on the 10th at our very own Boulder Bookstore at 7:30 pm.  “The Evening Road”, by Laird Hunt, is the story of two women on the run through Jim Crow-era Indiana.  The two travel a violence and hate filled America in search of a new life and escape their pasts.  “Make yourself Happy” by Eleni Sikelianos is offering an answer... Read More
