Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

October 8th, 2023

Some people shy away from cameras – others jump in front of them. Peter Hurley, a world-renowned headshot photographer, has put his own spin on this. He believes that a good portrait requires that the camera doesn’t mess with the subject, but that the subject messes with the camera. Once someone loses sight of the insecurities provoked by the camera, they start to perform for it. People start to play with the camera. They stare into it as if they were playing head games. They treat it as if it were a person looking at them – a person they want to make an impression on. These two girls were... Read More

There are many reasons to have a sense of freedom after you graduate from college. Many people seem to not want to be a part of the University and they have no intentions of being a part of it after they graduate. I was a part of that group of people. When I graduated from the University, I did not want to be a part of the University and be involved in their events. Now that I have been out for awhile, I realize that there is a place for me at the college and that I have a lot to contribute to the institution. There is nothing wrong with returning to the college after graduating to host a class... Read More

Water in my opinion is the key to life. Makenna adds to this by stating that water is to say the least, relaxing and peaceful. Peace being something that we as humans have fought for and looked for now for centuries. Makenna, being a CU graduate, presents the idea that we’ve been looking for something that has been right here in front of our faces. Water! Though she never grew up near the ocean, she spent quite a while on Lake Michigan. There she realized that the water is peace, the water is life, the water is Home! Thanks Makenna!  Read More

Pleading the Fifth

June 21st, 2022

Often, the significance of an event isn’t clear until after it’s passed. Everyone can recall an example in his or her own life. Sports, of course, are no exception. And since September is in full swing, that means football, which brings to mind a particularly odd example. It’s October 6, 1990. The CU Buffs had a record of three wins, one loss, and one tie; their opponent, the University of Missouri Tigers, had a record of two wins and two losses. Nearly 47,000 fans packed Faurot Field in Columbia, Missouri to watch the rivals battle it out. Both teams played hard, and Missouri lead 31-27... Read More
