Parents Weekend Activities!

September 30th, 2016

Photo credit: Lily Lemire This weekend is parents weekend and there are SO many things to do with parents, especially if they are from out of town. CU, of course, has a list of activities for parents to do but doing your own fun planned activities is how you can get the most out of parent’s weekend. Some things to consider doing: There are tons of good restaurants on pearl street to check out, my personal favorite is Hapa Sushi, they have great happy hour deals from 2-5! Also be sure to check out the Sink, which is located on the Hill. Get the sink burger, it does not disappoint. If parents... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

February 16th, 2016

After a long work week, Gabe spends his Friday evening out at Murphy’s Taphouse in Louisville with some of his co-workers. What better way to kick off the weekend? Gabe is a Colorado native who was born and raised in Longmont, and he doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon. He is currently a project manager at a Logistics company in Louisville but in his free time, you can find him at a local sport event or hanging out with his friends and family. Growing up, Gabe spend a lot of time with his dad, brother, and grandparents going to the local CU games. “So my favorite thing about... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

February 7th, 2016

These pint sized Broncos fans are ready for the big game! Meet Connor & Laila! I found these siblings making snowballs in their front yard waiting to ambush their party guests! Ten year old Connor has QB aspirations and throws a mean spiral already. When he isn’t tossing a football around he spends time at the numerous Boulder County skate parks on his trick scooter or BMX bike. He likes hanging out with his friends and playing video games as well. Laila is seven and loves arts and crafts! She is super creative and recently made a life-sized, 3-D dog out of paper! When she’s not making... Read More

Faces of Boulder- Pic of the Day!

November 14th, 2015

Football is here! This is Richard, and he is a fulltime student. He spent the day tailgating in the park, throwing around the old pig skin and enjoying a refreshing beverage. How do you celebrate college football on Saturday?  Read More

Tailgating 101

September 11th, 2015

Tailgate like a Buff! – or like a buff should, that is. I’ve always wished that CU had more of a tailgating culture, but as time goes on, I’ve realized that tailgating is what we make it. CU alumni seem to be the tailgating pros, other than the fact that they usually don’t get as rowdy as I would like to see CU students get. Tailgating means school pride, and although our football team isn’t #1, whatever. Football is a great excuse to wear black&gold, listen to good music, drink Bloody Mary’s and play beer pong in the parking lot. Necessities: Games –... Read More

Campus, Construction, and Curiosity

June 19th, 2015

The word construction immediately makes me cringe when it is spoken. The construction on highway 36, a highway that I drive every single day, seems to only inch towards completion. My freshman year I lived in Smith Hall in Kittredge which underwent an entire year of construction, which forced me and all other Smith kids to reroute and take the long way to campus (an additional 10 minutes). The construction on campus was the basis for many stories though. My freshman year roommate snuck into one of the half-completed buildings in Kittredge and turned the inside into a dance floor. Construction that... Read More

John Fox Isn’t the Answer, He’s the Problem

November 17th, 2014

If Denver Broncos fans wanted any indicator of how their team would perform in big games under head coach John Fox and new NFL legend QB Peyton Manning, five games into the 2012 season they got their answer. When the Broncos went 0-3 against the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, and New England Patriots, teams whose records would go on to be 14-2, 12-4, and 12-4 respectively, Fox and Manning were just continuing the trend they had become known for in Carolina and Indianapolis: losing the games that mattered. In 2003, in only his second year, Fox led the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance against... Read More

It’s like a Fantasy Football…Fantasy

September 29th, 2014

It’s a phenomenon that’s generating nearly four billion in revenue a year and conversely, is also projected to cost employers an estimated six and a half billion dollars over a 17-week period. When you calculate the amount of time spent by those involved with it into dollars, along with the advertisements, and other money generated as a result of its existence, Forbes calculated its potential worth at 70 billion. It has hundreds of websites, businesses, and sports networks dedicated to it. There’s even an entire popular TV series about it. I’m talking, of course, about fantasy football.     Top... Read More

Boulder Gets Set for the Super Bowl

February 1st, 2014

After a bye week that’s felt more like a bye month, the big game is now only a day away. Waiting for this game has been like waiting for Christmas all over again, only this time instead of watching our relatives stuff themselves with food, we’ll get to watch burly men tackle the stuffing out of each other. Here in Boulder, the energy and excitement is palpable; orange and blue flags have been unfurled in homes and storefronts all over town, folks are proudly sporting their Broncos jerseys (under their winter coats, of course) and talk of Sunday’s game can be heard everywhere. Even Governor... Read More

Colorado Football and the Spirit of CU

September 6th, 2013

With the beginning of a new football season underway, it’s hard not to notice the change in disposition among CU students and the city of Boulder. You can feel it on campus, on the Hill, downtown, and in living rooms across the city; finally, we’ve got a football team worth talking about (instead of sighing about). Students, their families, alumni and Boulderites everywhere are unraveling their dusty CU flags and waving them with pride, adorning themselves with Colorado T-Shirts and other CU paraphernalia before stepping out the door to greet their neighbors with, “How ’bout... Read More
