The Dark Horse Bar and Grill is having a Karaoke night this Christmas Eve.  They are featuring pints of Odells for $4.00 and Smirnoff vodka, flavored or plain for $3.00. Flashback Friday 2017 ~ 24 Years of Avery!

August 2nd, 2022

Looking for something local to do this Saturday? Celebrate the Avery Brewing Company’s 24th anniversary with some good tunes and plenty of beers. Avery Brewing has been around since it was established in 1993 by Adam Avery and his father, Larry. Their beers have pleased the mouths of locals for years, but now they have spread beyond Boulder. Just when I was living in Boston, I was introduced to what is now my go-to beer, Avery’s White Rascal. They’ve even crossed U.S. borders, selling their Boulder brews in Sweden and Japan! Clearly, there’s a lot to celebrate, so why not... Read More

Faces of Boulder- Pic of the Day!

June 2nd, 2022

Meet Michael! Michael was working for the Avery Brewing Company helping people choose the perfect beer.  Everyone inside and outside the tent was laughing and having a great time, it easily seemed like one of the most fun jobs around. “The hardest part of working in a festival is trying not to indulge in all the fun things that are around you. Self-restraint, I would say.”  Read More

Looking Back: Boulder Beer: Bold Since 1979

May 14th, 2022

Founded in 1979, on a farm just northeast of town, Boulder Beer has come a long way since it planted its roots in the Boulder Valley 38 years ago. As Colorado’s First Craft Brewery, Boulder Beer quickly took off, giving beer lovers an extraordinary change. After expanding their product, the brewmasters realized that they needed to expand their space as well, moving to the Pub on Wilderness Place in 1994. There are now two Boulder Beer locations – the one on Wilderness Place, and the other just off the Pearl Street Mall on Walnut. The Pub on Wilderness has to be my favorite location,... Read More

Grab a Coffin and a Turkey, Frozen Dead Guy Days is Here: March 18th – 20th

March 18th, 2022

What on earth are we talking about today? Only the coolest festival in Colorado. Every year thousands gather in Nederland to celebrate our state’s most famous frozen grandpa with games, beer, music, and coffin races! Did we mention most events are free? A little backstory first: Back in 1993 it was discovered that Trygve Bauge and his mother Aud were storing Trygve’s grandfather with dry ice in the shed behind their unfinished house in Nederland. They wanted the body cryonically frozen in the hopes that someday grandpa would be resurrected by future technologies (nanobots, etc.). The... Read More

A Brief History of the Beer Boot

January 11th, 2022

Drinking beer is not the only thing I do, so the other day, I decided to go on a lovely jaunt through downtown Boulder. Where was I walking, do you ask? To the Bohemian Biergarten, of course! I was on a quest to discover the history behind the beloved beer boot, or Das Boot, as many of us fondly refer to it. I arrived at my destination, but to my disappointment, their Bavarian chef, Martin König, was away, and my question could not be answered. I actually think my curiosity may have sparked the same questioning surrounding Das Boot in others. Anyways, I am not the most patient person, so instead... Read More

Sanitas, Sewn into Boulder fabric for the long haul

December 24th, 2021
Picture of Barrel aging beer at Sanitas Brewing

In most ways, Sanitas is similar to a tech start up: they are veterans from other companies in the industry, they knew exactly what they wanted to do, they are way ahead of schedule, they are focused on creating a community and being part of the existing one, they take what they are given by their surroundings and make it a positive situation, they give the customers exactly what they need, even if those customers don’t know it yet and the company always has a good story. The founders, all homebrewers originally, Chris Coyne, Michael Memsic and Zach Nichols all worked at other breweries originally,... Read More

Ten Reasons Why Boulder Rocks

December 17th, 2021

Happy cows may come from California, but happy people come from Boulder. And for good reason! Boulder has so much to offer, it’s no wonder that people here are considered to be among the happiest in the country. Narrowing this list down was the real challenge, but here are ten reasons why Boulder rocks: 1. Hiking, Biking, and Climbing Okay, maybe that’s three reasons, but the main theme here is mountains. Nestled right at the base of the Rockies, Boulder has over 300 miles of hiking and biking trails, and countless opportunities for climbing and bouldering (imagine that). Even if you don’t... Read More
