Made with Love: Lindsay’s Boulder Deli at Haagen Dazs

April 5th, 2017

Lindsay’s Boulder Deli at Haagen Dazs on Pearl street has a rich history of feeding the Boulder community. Lindsay Shaw, the deli’s owner and namesake, has devoted her whole life to satisfying customers, serving ice cream at her father’s shop in Atlanta, Georgia, since “before she could see over the counter.” Now, Shaw makes a point to be visible at her deli, taking orders at the counter, preparing sandwiches, and stopping by chat with tables. Her devotion to customer care is legendary, and is something she’s written into her company culture. As a rule, customers are greeted warmly... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day

March 2nd, 2016

A special Boulder by way of Barcelona Faces of Boulder post today! As I am in Barcelona opening a photo show, I was able to spend time with my friends Osi and Itzik who are spending a year (or more) in Barcelona. partly because of me..but that’s another story. Osi and Itzik moved to Boulder from Israel with their two young children in 2003. Itzik was starting a new job and the opportunity was right. As you can imagine it was quite an adjustment. Osi remembers the first time they went to Safeway and were overwhelmed by the unfamiliar choices! When they arrived, she was nervous, but quickly... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

Say hello to Cherie! Taking her dog Emery on walks in our amazing state is just one of the things this Florida native loves to do since moving to Colorado 2 years ago. “The magnificent, incredible views and weather are unbeatable!” she said when I asked what drew her here. Cherie manages two full service salons in Longmont and Ft. Collins which keep her extremely busy but when she does have a bit of downtime she heads west. Hiking, driving through the mountains and camping are all things she loves to do with her family. When she can’t get outdoors, relaxing or working on ceramics are two... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

Meet Ella, Paul and Clara! On the most amazing sunny Colorado day, I met Paul as he pushed two of his four kids on the swings at one of Boulder County’s beautiful parks. As are most of the residents here, Paul was super friendly and chatted openly as he played with his sweet girls. Paul and his wife moved from Oregon 18 years ago after college and have since made a home and are raising their family in Lafayette where they homeschool their children ages six, seven, ten and thirteen. They love the community here and enjoy visiting the museums, hiking and sledding together as a family. Paul works... Read More

The Wedding Seamstress has been a part of his family for the past seven years in Old Town Arvada. Chance is very outgoing and passionate about many things in his life, and his unwavering respect and love for his stepfather is one of those. “On my arm I have two ribbons on my wrist; one is black and that is for melanoma, and one is purple for domestic violence. Also on my forearm I have two sound waves. The one on top, the smaller sound wave, is of the last conversation that I had with... Read More

CU Buff Stuff: Thanksgiving Protocols

November 26th, 2014

Turkey day is nearly upon us students! ‘Tis the season of being thankful. What are you thankful for? Answers should include but not be limited to: family, friends, a good education, living and/or going to school in COLORADO, our basketball team, and so much more. I know the majority of students aren’t staying in Boulder let alone on campus for break but I’ll still do my best to let you know how to make the best out of this much-needed holiday break.   First things first, be involved with thanksgiving dinner, and your involvement should be more than just eating. Whether you’re a good... Read More

Calls of the Wild at Heil Valley Ranch

October 2nd, 2014

< If you have gotten out to some of the foothills and montane parks around the county lately and sat for a quiet moment amid your mountain bike race down the mountain or perhaps your run up the hill, then you may have heard a strange whistling kind of noise. It is not the sound of elves frolicking, it is actually a love song. The bull elk is calling out, just like a love struck teenager, for some companionship from a cow elk.  The call is a bugle and can be heard now during elk rut.  The only herd of elk that lives out their entire lives inside the borders of Boulder County calls Heil Valley... Read More

At the age of nine, a tumor was found in Kayla Armstrong’s brain, and she was diagnosed with cancer. She spent over 300 days in the hospital, undergoing chemotherapy, radiation treatment, a bone-marrow transplant, and many other arduous treatments and surgeries before finally emerging 18 months later with signs of great progress. She returned to the hospital for MRI scans for a period of two years before doctors could finally declare her cancer free. Her father, Mike Armstrong, described Kayla as being positive throughout the entire strenuous process and praised her for maintaining the “best... Read More
