Be Aware

I, along with what seems like the entire world, has started watching a show on Netflix called 13 Reasons Why. It’s about a girl in high school who commits suicide, but before she does, records her story on cassette tapes outlining the 13 reasons why certain people from her high school have driven her to end her life. It’s a very eye opening show because even though it is set in high school, a scary fact is that suicide is the second-most cause of death for college age students. Warning signs of suicide is if someone is depressed, lonely and isolated from friends and family, change in sleep patterns, loss of interest in activities or friends and changes in lifestyle. CU has excellent counseling and psychiatric services, so if you or anyone you know is showing signs of suicidal behavior, this is a great resource. There is also a 24/7 help line the number is 303-492-6766. Sometimes all it takes is to just be there for someone.
