A New Chapter Begins for Colorado Buffs RB Dylan Edwards
As soon as the University of Colorado hired NFL legend Deion Sanders to be their new Head Coach, people from all football scenes knew things would change right away. But it’s not like Coach Prime forgot about those players who helped him make such a significant impact at Jackson State.
However, besides all the familiar faces, having Deion Sanders around would also be massive for the Buffs’ chances to land some top-tier talents in the recruiting scene. And that’s precisely what happened when they landed a superstar out of Kansas high school in running back Dylan Edwards.
Standing at 5’8’’ and 160 pounds, Edwards doesn’t strike as the most physically imposing prospect in his class. However, his top-notch speed and lateral quickness made the Notre Dame Fighting Irish set their sights on him.
Edwards committed to Notre Dame late in 2022 and was slated to be a star in one of the most renowned and prominent programs in college football history. But that was before coach Prime reached out to get him to join him with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Can’t Say No to Coach Prime
A four-star recruit out of high school, Edwards only needed a couple of days to commit to Notre Dame as soon as Buffalo hired Sanders. Now, in his first official interview as a member of the Buffaloes, Edwards opened up on the recruiting process.
He claimed that Sanders actually convinced him to visit campus even before being appointed by Colorado. And just like it happened at Jackson State and with other fellow recruits, he just couldn’t resist and loved what Sanders wanted to build within the program.
“About a week before the announcement that he was coming to Colorado, they called me and said, ‘We’re making a switch, we want you to come with us,’” Dylan Edwards said, per Mile High sports. “And when Coach Prime’s on the phone and he asks you that, you can’t say no, you gotta be like, ‘Ok, I’m gonna come visit,” and he was like, ‘well, you’re not just gonna come visit, we’re gonna get you to commit,’ and I was like, ‘alright.’ Well, I came, and that’s what I did, and it was nothing short of what I’ve seen online on YouTube. The facilities are great, the coaches are great, I’m just happy to be here.”
He Loves it in Boulder
Making the transition from high school to college is never easy. Some players struggle to adapt early on, either because of missing home or because of the much more apparent physicality of the game, plus the perks and demands of the college lifestyle.
Nonetheless, Edwards has been like a fish in the water since he arrived on campus. He claims he’s already working his way up the running back depth chart, working quite closely with his new Offensive Coordinator, Sean Lewis.
“It’s been great,” Edwards said when asked about his first practice. “The offense that Coach Lewis has had is tough and very complicated, but I’m getting adjusted every day, and every day I just try to come out there and practice and be the best me I can be.”
Of course, expecting a first-year player to have a prominent role in the offense right out of the gate might be a lot to ask, regardless of his talent. But Edwards seems poised for stardom in Colorado, and the Buffaloes might as well be one of the teams to beat in the nation next season with their new-look offense and coach Sanders calling the shots.
