Not Your Nonna’s Meatball Recipe!

December 4th, 2014

This post originally appeared on my blog, Red Wine and Lipstick:  Sometimes, I get into Italian Momma-mode and want to make the biggest, carb-iest, most comforting dish! It’s usually meatballs, which is perfectly fine because meatballs rock and you can never have too many. My mom is Italian and Mexican, and we grew up with a lot of recipes passed down from the Mexican side, and very few from the Italian side so I’ve begun to create my own dishes. These, I call my “Better Than Your Nonna’s Meatballs”. (And don’t worry, you don’t have to tell Nonna that mine are better. It’ll... Read More

Boulder’s Tastiest (And Smallest) Burger.

November 13th, 2014

I love a good burger. In fact, I’d go as far as calling it my favorite food. I’m a fan of Larkburger’s fast casual set up, The Dark Horse’s Jiffy Burger (who knew peanut butter, bacon and provolone worked?) and I frequently build and grill my own concoctions. As a respectable burger eating citizen, I’m typically against ordering a burger through HungryBuffs or GrubHub but last weekend I was watching a Food Network burger special and I was hungry. Only a burger would satisfy and there was no way I was about get off my couch to go find one… Enter: Drake’s... Read More

Happy Hour: Lucky Pie Louisville

October 30th, 2014

Being a young, hard working community, Boulder loves to take the opportunity to unwind! You’ll see Boulderites unwinding on the trails, climbing, having a drink on Pearl, or at happy hour. During one of my “unwinding hours”, I recently discovered a little known happy hour that even rivals that of Tahona and Centro… To find it, you have to go beyond the normal Pearl St/Boulder city limits to the quaint and cute Old Town Louisville! Right there on Front Street you’ll find one of Boulder County’s hidden gem: Lucky Pie Pizza and Tap House! This popular spot boasts... Read More

Bouder’s Highest Rated Restaurant is Cheaper Than You Think.

October 16th, 2014

Did you know there is a higher rated restaurant in Boulder with more Google reviews than Frasca? And it’s about 1/6th of the price! Wanna know what it is?! Curry N Kebob! The small, hole in the wall style spot (located on 28th st.) is more popular than you’d think, serving up classic Indian favorites with killer dinner specials under $10. Everything is made to order and the baji (chickpea batter-fried onion rings) are THE BEST! Like most Indian cuisine, the menu is almost entirely gluten-free, so you GF-foodies can get your fix too! I typically order my C&K for take out post-gym... Read More

Fall Weather Home Cookin.

October 2nd, 2014

October is definitely my favorite month. It’s not my birthday month, nor has any noteworthy life event happened to me during the pre-Halloween season, but I just love it! I love how it makes me feel. Everything is cozier, sweeter and comforting. As the days get cooler and nights grow longer, I wave goodbye to roof top drinks and backyard grilling. I turn to one of my favorite cooking methods: the crockpot. I all but forget I own multiple slow cookers/crock pots between April-August but once September hits, I use any excuse to use it? Oh, it drizzled this morning? Crock pot. Oh, you feel... Read More

Riffs Urban Fare

September 25th, 2014

Last Friday, we stumbled into Riffs on Pearl Street not quite knowing what to expect. We had just popped into a handful of West Pearl restaurants, to find the same thing at all: 45 minute wait, overflowing with students and visiting parents, or overpriced. As many wonderful things as I had heard about Riffs, I had only enjoyed a drink or two at their bar and never actually ordered their food. We decided to see that it was all give it a whirl… What a surprise! A pleasant, excellent, tasty, and affordable surprise! We were seated within 2 minutes of walking through the door (refreshing since... Read More

Rush Bowls: Healthy On The Go!

September 20th, 2014

More and more it seems that Boulder is at the forefront of innovation and business, particularly in the food industry. With the likes of Justin’s Peanut Butter, Horizon’s Milk, and Udi’s Gluten-Free, Boulder has sparked something of a natural food’s revolution. Joining that pack is Boulder favorite, Rush Bowls! The Hill staple is no longer just a place for sorority girls to get their post-yoga smoothies or for students to grab a bowl between classes. Since opening 10 years ago, Rush Bowls’ popularity has allowed them to package grab-n-go bowls available in stores across... Read More

Gluten-Free and Potions: Shine Restaurant

September 11th, 2014

Boulder is known for many things. One thing is our priority to health and immersing ourselves in the latest health food trends. So it’s not surprise there are a plethora of gluten-free, paleo, or vegan options around Boulder. (Yes, it’s true, Boulder and “gluten-free” seem to go hand in hand… at least from beyond the Boulder County borders). I realize that being gluten-free and being a foodie contradict each other, but I try to live by a 90-10 diet (90% GF, 10% not… although it’s beginning to seem a lot more 80-20.) Which is where my new favorite restaurant... Read More

A Latin Affair: Centro Latin Kitchen And Refreshment Palace.

September 4th, 2014

We all know that Boulder has a little something for everyone, so finding your favorite, go-to restaurant is a breeze! (Unless your me and find it hard to pick favorites…) Despite my difficulties on choosing a single “favorite restaurant”, I have found Centro Latin Kitchen and Refreshment Palace is consistently at the top of my list. The food is always great, the vibe is always fun, their happy hour is killer and if you’re lucky, they might have live music while you’re there! Plus they always give a nod to my favorite South American holidays and traditions. (Their Carnival... Read More

The Only Labor Day Recipe You’ll Need!

August 29th, 2014

Labor Day weekend is upon us, so send summer off into the sunset with the most amazing Spicy, Sticky Chicken! And don’t worry! It won’t be long until grilling season is back to greet us next year! I love summer. Mostly because it means I’m allowed to lounge in a bathing suit all day, but also because I love summer time food! Grilling is my number one cooking method during warm months: Peaches, cherries, corn on the cob, hot dogs, pineapple, stuffed burgers… you get the point. My favorite thing to grill, you ask? Why chicken, of course! There’s no better way to enjoy chicken then... Read More

Boulder Remembers Robin Williams

August 12th, 2014

Yesterday the world learned of the tragic death of comedian Robin Williams, age 63. His work, spanning across 5 decades, touched the lives of millions, particularly the Boulder community. His career began in the late 70s show, “Mork and Mindy”, which took place in Boulder. Williams played an alien named Mork from the planet Ork, who called the historical Queen Anne home on 1619 Pine St. home. After the tragic and unexpected news of his death, a memorial at the Mork and Mindy house was set up with dozens of mourners leaving flowers and letters for the star. His work following the... Read More

Boulder Hosts Its Inaugural Ironman.

August 4th, 2014

Yesterday, Boulder hosted its inaugural Ironman triathlon! Usually a host for the Half Ironman, the endurance capital of the world finally welcomed an official Ironman competition to the city. An inspiring and challenging triathlon in its own right, the Boulder community came together to cheer on nearly 3000 professional and non-professional athletes well into the night. Starting at the Boulder reservoir and finishing at 13th and Pearl, hard working athletes crosses the finish line after over 12 hours and 140.6 miles of work. Celebrated and cheered on by friends, family, and the community, it... Read More

Mid-Week Brunching: Snooze An AM Eatery

July 31st, 2014

My favorite meal of the week is brunch (as with many other people I’m sure!) and sometimes it makes me a little bummed that I have to wait until the weekend to get it… That was until Snooze came to town! The Denver-favorite finally opened its doors in Boulder in the spring of 2012 right on Pearl St, and as been packed ever since! I wasn’t surprised to see it completely packed and a (well worth it) 10-minute wait on a Tuesday morning (I’m convinced nobody works in Boulder). After ordering a phenomenal iced almond milk latte at the bar, we scored an awesome table on the patio... Read More

A Side of History With Your Sink Burger.

July 24th, 2014

If there is one restaurant that should be written about in AboutBoulder.com, it should be The Sink, and mainly because of its sheer celebrity in the Boulder community. Located on The Hill, it’s been a Boulder staple for over 90 years. It’s changed names a and owners a handful of times but in 1989 returned (permanently) to it’s roots. Known for its beatnik murals and colorful decor, The Sink was home to Buffs like Robert Redford (legend has it he slept in one of the booths after working his janitor shifts), and being the hub for the hippie culture in the 70s.  You probably already know... Read More

Farmer’s Market Recipe: Rustic Cordon Bleu.

June 10th, 2014

Summertime in Boulder is one of my favorite things! It rains enough that the whole city turns green with lush trees and grass and wildflowers. With the warmer months comes the Boulder County Farmer’s Market. As a kid, I spent Saturday mornings with my mom at the local Farmer’s picking out flowers and honey sticks. I feel that nostalgia every time I’m there which is why I’ve become so adamant about going to ours every Saturday morning. It’s a great place to pick up brunch and enjoy it on the grass after meandering through the stalls. Lately, I’ve been obsessed... Read More

Zoe Ma Ma: You’ll Never Look At Take Out The Same Again.

May 22nd, 2014

If you know me, you know there is one place I’m always craving. It’s kind of my favorite restaurant… (Actually, it is my favorite restaurant…) Not many people remember it’s here. In fact, if you’re a fellow Boulderite, you’ve more than likely swiftly passed over it on your way to Pasta Jay’s or the West End. But I’m gonna let you in on this Boulder gem: Zoe Ma Ma’s. Its quite possibly some of the best traditional, Chinese, comfort food you can find. None of your typical Chinese take out of General Tsao’s or rubbery sesame chicken and rice…... Read More
