Faces of Boulder – Alex!

December 7th, 2022

This is Alex, one business idea at a time. Alex is a rare breed of Moroccan, English and American blood. Having spent his primary school life in Philadelphia, Alex now studies marketing and advertisement as a senior at CU. He has a fascination (as well as a deep knowledge) of health and nutrition and he plans on focusing that knowledge towards something lasting and beneficial to humanity like wearable health technology. You may have run into Alex if you’ve ever stepped within a 100 foot radius of the REC center, or you can catch him in the mountains snapin’ pics of friends. Cheers to a healthy... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day – Cody!

January 11th, 2022

You may not know this but Matt Stone and Trey Parker were CU film studies graduates. The first episode of South Park was animated right here at CU, in the basement of Macky Auditorium actually. Cody is film student at CU as well and he has grand plans for his career. Like Parker and Stone, Cody’s interests lie in animation. He recently returned form a trip abroad in Japan where the culture and art undoubtedly influenced him in creating his Junior years film. Next fall, Cody will spend the entire year articulating his thesis film, again animated. Keep an eye out for Cody Arizona Storm,... Read More

Faces of Boulder – Pic of the Day!

Piqué asked for his face not to be photographed. Instead he’d rather that I take a picture of his Tonsure, the patch of hair on the back of his head that resembles a sort of Buddhist mullet. The Tonsure, Piqué says, is an identification for others that he is a person of peace and guidance; someone who is willing to help you if you ask. Piqué was walking down Grandview Avenue holding a drum and asking people if they would like to hear a song, maybe dance a little. I asked Piqué and his group of two other monks to come inside and teach me the song. We ended up signing Hari krishna and dancing... Read More

Success by design. That is how you could describe Juliana’s journey from Washington state to Boulder. Juliana is in the ENVD program and you can tell with just one look in her apartment. She works at a desk that she designed and built, her bed sits on the floor because she has not built the frame just yet, and a lamp she designed lights her friend’s apartment across the street. Returning from a semester in Denmark and a summer internship in New York, she will finish her college career when she graduates this spring! Good luck Juliana!  Read More

Faces of Boulder – Nancy

November 9th, 2017

This is Nancy, from California. Nancy made her way from deep slopes in the west to Colorado where she could begin a new life. In California Nancy had been fighting with drug addiction and and as she puts it, she was losing. Determined not to give up she decided that the next best step would be to bike out to Colorado where she could start fresh. And she did just that. Three years later and she’s drug free. Now Nancy works at a call center now, helping guide people out of the position she was in when she lived in California. Keep on keeping on, Nancy!    Read More

Lael sits and looks out over Boulder county, contemplating next move. How many people do you know who get truly excited about a flower? Lael is one of them. A colorado native, Lael goes to CU and he studies a plethora of things. Lael is currently in a Yoga class, he plays guitar and he makes films. Amazing films by the way. I’ve never meet someone with and eye quite like Lael. So go out and sit on top of the mountain and just think. It’s good for you.  Read More

Regardless who you voted for, at least you went out and expressed your views. John, pictured here, dressed himself in a makeshift cardboard box in an attempt to convince people to vote yesterday in the most polarizing election this generation has known. Love others, love yourself and always vote for what you believe in.  Read More

There are some people in this world that would go so far as to call Boulder a “liberal” town. Well to those people I say, why is there a Christian Science bookstore on the most expensive retail street in Colorado? I ventured inside this store yesterday afternoon to see if I could answer that very question. The first thing you need to know about this Christian Science bookstore is that it is hardly a bookstore at all. In fact it only sells two books; Science and Health, published by Mary Baker Eddy in 1875, and you guessed it, the Bible. Science and Health is the founding book on Christian... Read More

Meet Dan and Elliot. These guys are fly fishers. They’ve been doing this for years now, and on a warm Sunday at 4pm they decided to come to Boulder Creek to fish for trout. You are not allowed to keep the trout that you catch in the creek, so they just get a hook and toss it back in. But don’t be fooled, just because these guys are fishing in Boulder Creek doesn’t make them new to the sport. Dan recently trekked all the way to Montana to fly fish with his dad, battling massive fish in raging rapids with just his rod and his hands. They like the atmosphere of the creek in Boulder,... Read More

Dogs are humans too! And this dog is named Pete (Pronounced Pete-ee). She’s a mix of Pitbull and something else, her owner isn’t too sure. Pete’s real owner is away so Blair volunteered to watch her for a while and take her on some Colorado adventures. What are you and your dog doing this weekend?  Read More
