Wandering into the children’s wing of the Boulder Public Library, my attention was unexpectedly grabbed by the sound of silly songs and laughter from the back of the otherwise quiet room. As I made my way through the colorful, book lined aisles seeking the source, I found Melanie finishing up a planning session for an upcoming children’s story time. Meet Melanie! This cheery 15 year Boulder resident is the Youth Services Specialist there at the library. Originally from Ogden, Utah, she came to Boulder seeking a more progressive atmosphere but wanting to stay within the charm of the Rocky... Read More

On an unusually grey day, I stopped into one of Boulder County’s abundant and fantastic coffee houses and was immediately warmed by Jessica’s friendly smile. We chatted across the counter and I learned that she moved to the area from California 10 years ago with her family. Jessica’s love for Boulder is evident as she genuinely describes how friendly everyone is and how previously working on Pearl Street led her to meet so many fun and interesting people, “Everyone is just easy to talk to, people here are so friendly!” Its apparent in her demeanor that Jessica loves her job and aspires... Read More
